Former Malian minister Arouna Modibo Touré was granted provisional release on 6 February 2024 while proceedings connected with the Securiport airport security contract continued, according to reporting from Bamako.

Touré, a former youth and sports minister, had been held in connection with allegations being examined by investigators working on the agreement. Some reports referred to a security deposit or guarantee associated with his release, but the precise amount and conditions should be checked against court documents before publication as fact.

The wider case concerns a 2016 arrangement for airport security technology. Malian prosecutors publicly raised questions about a contractual revenue-sharing clause and the state's alleged loss of approximately CFA8 billion between 2017 and 2022.

Other former officials, including former security minister Salif Traoré and former transport minister Seynabou Diop, appeared in reporting about the investigation. Their legal positions and custody conditions were not the same.

Provisional release is a procedural change, not an acquittal and not a finding of guilt. The retrieved reporting does not establish a final verdict against Touré in this case.
